ANNOUNCEMENTS for week of August 20, 2017
Football Skills Clinic
It is that time!! What time you ask? Football time!! There will be a football skills clinic
Sunday, September 10th at our church. This is for boys and girls and even those adults
brave enough to join us!! We will be doing basic drills. This will be during the usual
Sunday School hour. If you have any questions, please contact Donald Watson at 903-
We are looking for two members from the congregation to be on the budget committee.
If you would like to serve your church in this way, please volunteer. If you
aren’t sure and may have questions which the answers would help you decide, please
feel free to ask. Either way, let Bill Videtto, who is the church treasurer, hear from you.
He can answer questions about how much time and energy is involved in serving on this
committee. Please contact Bill Videtto at 318-609-0014 or Carol Lattier.
Preaching Schedule during Pastor Mark’s Sabbatical
For July and August we have had and continue to have a number of people sharing with
us in leading worship. This Sunday, we have Revs. Wally and Chris Seibel again. Please
greet them and thank them for the three Sundays they travelled to be here with us.
Summer Office Hours
For the remainder of August the church office will be staffed Mondays through Thurs-days from 10:00 until 2:00.
One Worship Service – 10:00
Remember we are on our summer worship schedule. On Sundays we have one worship service at 10:00 a.m. and will not have Sunday School until September 10 at 9:00.
The church council has recommended that we continue with one worship service this fall. Sunday school will be at 9:00, followed by one blended worship service at 10:00. Our worship committee will continue to have a mix of traditional music and liturgy, blended with praise music. The council believes that our combined service, involving the entire congrega-tion, will be worshipful and energetic. We've had a great summer of worship and we can continue our momentum this fall.
While this may not be choice of every member, we are asking for your cooperation to all work together to make one service a great opportunity to worship God together as one body in Christ.
Sunday School will begin on September 10.
Deadline for Newsletter Articles
The deadline for submission of articles for our September newsletter is August 21 by noon.
Social Ministry Wants Your Help
Social Ministry will be doing the Shoebox drive again this year during the months of Au-gust and September. The shoe boxes will be located in the Narthex. Take as many as you can use. Please bring back any that you do not use, as well as those you use.
Important!! This year there have been some changes to the items you can pack:
Do not pack toothpaste, candy of any kind, war related items such as toy guns, knives or mil-itary figures, no liquid, glue or paint sets.
Here are a few suggested items:
Stuffed animals, toy cars, yo-yos, jump rope, school supplies, toothbrushes, bar soap, combs, wash clothes, hair brushes, finger puppets, playing cards, and crafts.
Social Ministry and Quilters will cover the cost for shipping. All shoe boxes must be re-turned by September 30th!
Last year, Primetimers did this as a group at one of their meetings and had a blast doing
them! You might want to consider doing the same—LCW, Bible Study Groups, or even a group of friends that just love being together! Just let the office know so the conference room can be available on the day/evening you want, and get together having fun while making children happy!
If you have questions about this project, please see Nancy Cox or Virginia Coker, or call the church office.
Save the Date and Please Continue to Donate!!!
We are planning to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in a big way! Save the date of October 28th from 4:00—9:00 p.m.
We can use your help through donation of items:
We are still stockpiling beverages and are now asking for chips which are packaged in individual size or snack size bags. There is a donation of these on the table in the café area if you need to see them to know what is considered individual or snack size. If you would still like to donate to this event, please continue to bring cases of bottled water, canned Cokes, canned Sprite, and canned Dr. Pepper. We have added individual pack size chips to the list of donations needed and which can be brought as a donation now. Diet drinks will be collected in the near future. We delayed the diet drinks because of the shorter expiration date, but watch for the announcement that diet drinks are also being accepted soon.
We thought we would list the church council for you during this sabbatical time. We have a great Church Council again for 2017. Please do talk with council members about your ideas and concerns. And please support the council in your prayers. Our council for 2017 is:
